A political party Allied Congress Party of Nigeria (ACPN) has decried reports that it endorsed the All Progressives Congress (APC) party candidate for Anambra state gubernatorial election Andy Uba.
The ACPN said the report is a ‘blackmail of the highest order’.
Speaking to journalist in Abuja on Tuesday, August 1, the national chairman of the ACPN Ganiyu Galadima said his party could not have endorsed Uba when they are preparing for the November 18, Anambra election.
Galadima describing the report as false said he never sat or discussed with anyone on endorsing Uba.
“If we want to endorse a candidate it must be known to all, we must all sat together in a meeting and look at the pros and coins but situation whereby someone just go behind us to purportedly support a candidate on behalf of our party is bad and I see it as a cheap blackmail,” Galadima said.
He further added the report is an attempt by some individuals or group to blackmail the ACPN and reduce the party’s chances of winning election in Anambra.
Denying ever meeting APC aspirant for Anmabra election, Galadima said the reports are aimed at blackmailing the leadership of the ACPN.
“I don’t know Chief Andy Uba and I have never met him. So is it possible for me to participate in a meeting and endorse someone who is not known to me? It is not possible,” Galadima said.
“We want to clearly state that ACPN has not in anyway endorse Sen. Andy Uba and as a matter of fact we don’t know him.
If we are going to endorse anybody it must be known not only to the party at national level but even the state chapters must be carried along, we will look at it, will it be in the interest of the party? If it is not we will go out of it. In fact, I’m just hearing about it,” he added.
Voice of Ndigbo earlier reported that Uba, the senator currently representing Anambra South picked the All Progressives Congress (APC) nomination form to run for the Anambra governorship election on November 18.
Uba has also begun his sensitization tour to various local government areas in Anambra state.
The tour, Voice of Ndigbo gathered is aimed informing the people of Anambra, on the need to vote for the senator.
Speaking to residents in the state, Uba said he is confident that he would unseat the incumbent governor Willie Obiano in the forthcoming election.
