After the supreme court on Friday, May 12, declared the tax evasion case against Governor Okezie Ikpeazu as baseless allegations, the governor took to the streets of Aba to celebrate his victory.
Ikpeazu was ordered to vacate his office in 2016 over allegtions of fake tax returns prior to the December 2014 governorship election in Abia state.
Shortly after worshiping at the Government House chapel, the elated Governor told pressmen that he is giving all glory to God for his victory in court.
He said: “Two years down the line we are still in court, today God has given me victory; we thank God for this. This victory is not for anybody but the people of Abia State.
“I wish to call on all those in the trenches battling for the governorship of Abia to come out and join hands with us to build a better Abia, the victory is not for anybody; it is for all of us. We are in a hurry to develop Abia, we don’t have the luxury of time.
“I invite those who are contesting to sheath their sword. I bear no grudge against anybody. Like I said in my previous victories I bear the cross of Jesus Christ. I also call on all my supporters to forgive all who may have one way or the other.”
Recall that in 2016, Justice Okon Abang in a ruling described the emergence of Ikpeazu as governor of Abia state under the platform of the PDP as null and void.
The petition against Ikpeazu was filled by an Abia state businessman, and member of the Peoples Democratic Party, Samson Ogah.
The Supreme court on Friday, reversed a previous judgement by the Abuja Federal High Court that declared Ogah the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party for the 2015 governorship election as the rightful winner of the election.
Abian troops out en mass to welcome and celebrate their Amiable Governor as he arrives with his entourage..
Long live our Amiable Governor Okezie Ikpeazu! Long live Ndi-Abia State!! Long live Nigeria!!!
