Medical practitioners in Aba Abia State has decried perceived upsurge in abduction of doctors in the city

THE Nigerian Medical Association, NMA, Aba, chapter, Abia State, has decried perceived upsurge in abduction of doctors in the city.

The Association lamented that on Friday, April 7, a doctor was abducted in the city on his way to buy medical supplies, lamenting that 72 hours later, another doctor was seized at his clinic with a patient.

Briefing newsmen in Aba, Chairman of the NMA, Aba zone, Dr. Udo Mark, who condemned the kidnap of the doctors, urged the state government to beef up security in the city to protect lives and properties.

He said, “On Friday 7th April, a medical doctor was kidnapped when he went to procure medical supplies. 72 hours later, another doctor was kidnapped at his clinic with his patient. If a doctor feels that his life is at risk, that doctor will not go to work. We urge them to stop kidnapping doctors.”

He urged residents to volunteer useful information about suspected movements to the Police, stressing that the Police Tactical Response team have the capacity to respond to distress call within few minutes in any area.
