VON gathered that Maryleen Ezichi was said to have been demoted to a classroom teacher for allegedly embarrassing Nkechi, the wife of the state governor Okezie Ikpeazu.
Punch reports that Ezichi who queried the non-payment of teachers salaries and entitlements during the governor’s wife visit was transferred to another primary school in Ukwa-East local government are – about 140 kilometers away from her former school.
The transfer is to serve as a punishment for her embarrassment and lack of respect for the governor’s wife, sources said.
VON gathered that during an interactive session with Ikpeazu’s wife at the inauguration of her free meal programme for primary school pupils, Ezichi had complained of the non-payment of teachers’ salaries and allowances by the state government for several months.
The headmistress was said to have informed the governor’s wife of difficulties faced by teachers due to the lack of salary payments.
She also begged Nkechi to intercede on behalf of teachers to the state government.
Unfortunately, two days after the ’embarrassing’ moment for the governor’s wife, Ezichi was whisked away from her school to Umuahia where she was handed a letter of deployment. She was also instructed to resume as a classroom teacher in her new school.

But in Ezichi’s defence, one of her colleagues who spoke on condition of anonymity said the state government must work towards doing the needful to avoid such embarrassments.
The colleague said: “By the way, of what importance is the meal programme to the pupils in particular and the schools in general?
What about other schools in the community? All we are saying is that the government should pay us our entitlements period.”
Also, the state chairman of the Nigerian Union of Teachers Chizobam Akparanta said he was not aware of the incident.
He also said the teacher would have complained to the NUT about the incident. He promised that the union would look into the matter immediately.
